Deployable CBRN Laboratories
IBATECH delivered to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) a deployable BSL-3 laboratory for the Moldovan Armed Forces, together with its associated transport and loading system. The project was developed over a two-year period within NATO’s Science for Peace and Security Programme.
The objective was to provide Moldova with a fully deployable capability for the identification of chemical and biological agents, with particular application to the analysis of areas contaminated by anthrax spores and the assessment of remediation techniques for contaminated land.
Scope of Supply
The solution included a BSL-3 containment laboratory, designed to safely work with Risk Group 3 microorganisms and high concentrations of Risk Group 2 biological agents. The laboratory incorporates:
- CBRN filtration and pressure-control systems
- HVAC and environmental conditioning
- Containment airlocks
- Biological analytical equipment
- Class II and Class III biological safety cabinets
- Autonomous power supply
- Reagents and consumables for two years of operation
The contract also covered the complete logistical system required for deployment, including a truck, trailer and hydraulic loading/unloading system for the standard 20-foot ISO container.
Training & operational support
In addition to the equipment supply, IBATECH developed the corresponding operational procedures and provided training in Chisinau to personnel from the Moldovan Armed Forces and health services. Training was delivered by IBATECH’s chemistry and biology specialists.
