IBATECH is participating in ARGUS, a new R&D project aimed at developing a portable, interoperable and highly sensitive platform for the early detection, monitoring and management of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNe) threats.
The project represents an important step towards a new generation of European CBRNe technologies, combining advanced sensors, embedded artificial intelligence, multi-source data fusion and real-time operational intelligence in a single modular system.
For IBATECH, ARGUS also marks a significant technological evolution: moving from the integration of individual CBRNe sensors towards the development of a scalable multi-threat platform capable of integrating, analysing and visualising chemical, biological and radiological information in real time.
From CBRNe detection to operational intelligence
A key objective of ARGUS is to move beyond individual detection devices towards an integrated and scalable multi-threat system capable of collecting, analysing and visualising chemical, biological and radiological information in real time.
The project will investigate new sensing technologies, including highly sensitive chemical, biological and explosive detection and radiological-nuclear sensors incorporating embedded AI for real-time analysis.
IBATECH's role in ARGUS
IBATECH will focus on the integration and operational intelligence layer of ARGUS, developing the modular platform that brings the different detection technologies together.
The work will advance IBATECH’s capabilities in multi-source data processing, real-time data fusion, pattern analysis, automatic alert generation and AI-based dynamic risk modelling. The resulting platform will be designed for demanding environments such as mobile nodes, deployable command posts and sensitive infrastructures.
IBATECH will also contribute directly to biological detection research, including advanced sensor materials and real-time metagenomic analysis using nanopore sequencing to strengthen early detection of biological threats.
A multidisciplinary Spanish consortium
ARGUS brings together a multidisciplinary Spanish consortium combining expertise in advanced sensing, CBRNe technologies, electronics, artificial intelligence and systems integration. The industrial consortium comprises SENSING & CONTROL, Mobility Ion Technologies (MION) and IBATECH, supported by leading research and technology organisations including IMB-CNM (CSIC), AIMPLAS and TECNALIA. This combination of complementary capabilities will support the development and integration of the different sensing, processing and operational components into a common multi-threat platform.
