IBATECH Tecnología S.L. announces the launch of INTEGRA-CBRN (Integrated Alert and Proactive Detection System for Cross-Border CBRN Emergencies in the EU), a European project aimed at improving early detection, cross-border coordination and proactive decision-making in response to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Coordinated by IBATECH and cofunded by Horizon Europe, the project brings together 14 partners from EU Member States and Morocco.
The project addresses key challenges identified in civil emergency response to CBRN risks: limited public awareness, fragmented response protocols and insufficient integration of detection, identification and monitoring technologies. In this context, a paradigm shift towards proactive decision-making is required, anticipating threats through optimised risk assessment capabilities for first responders and enhanced CBRN threat detection solutions.
INTEGRA-CBRN will develop an alert system that integrates Command, Control, Communication & Intelligence (C3I) with heterogeneous sensors and data sources through data-fusion technologies, artificial intelligence, CBRN knowledge database generation and multi-domain deployable CBRN networks such as remote detection and alert sensing networks (ERDA), biological alert networks, interoperable stand-off chemical detection and diverse interoperable CBRN sensors.
IBATECH will apply its expertise in CBRN solutions to drive scalable early-warning technologies tailored to the needs of end-users. The project strategy is based on connecting technological innovation, engagement of practitioners and first responders in CBRN emergencies, and international cooperation. All with the aim of accelerating preparedness for these threats, facilitating decision-making, strengthening collaboration among first responders and validating the system in 4 use cases in Spain, Slovakia, Belgium and Morocco.
INTEGRA-CBRN brings together SMEs, research organisations, CBRN security specialists and first-response practitioners, who will collaborate over 3 years to develop a harmonised and replicable response framework for Europe and neighbouring regions, improving the interoperability of CBRN capabilities and transferring results into operational environments.
The project has received an EU contribution of approximately €4.5 million, including €800,000 in co-funding through the FSTP mechanism to promote the integration of digital solutions proposed by SMEs or IT solutions from first responders. INTEGRA-CBRN is developed under Horizon Europe, within Cluster 3 “Civil Security for Society”, under the “Disaster-Resilient Societies” programme.
